Telco Systems DCB-24 DIGITAL CHANNEL BANK

Up for auction are TWO (2) used TELCO SYSTEM DCB-24 DIGITAL CHANNEL BANK with Wall Mounted Cabinet Enclosures.  Said equipment was included in a lot of various telecom equipment that we recently purchased from a company liquidation.  We have not tested the equipment since we have no qualified technicians to test or operate them.

The DCB-24 is a time-tested, reliable channel bank that provides cost-effective network access to dedicated and switched T1 services. It is ideal for users with networks that remain static and are looking for a low cost reliable solution. Its companion, the DDI-24, is ideal for drop-and-insert applications.  The DCB-24 can be configured with a variety of voice and data modules equipped with test and loopback capabilities.

Since the introduction of T1 services, companies have taken advantage of the cost savings found in sending voice, data and image over public or private T1 networks. The DCB-24 provides economical access to T1 network services such as 800/WATTS, virtual private networks and dedicated T1 lines. The DCB-24 also accommodates access to new switched digital services via the inverse multiplexer data module.  The DCB-24 offers T1 network connectivity in point-to-point, point-to-network, or point-to-backbone applications for a variety of telecommunications equipment. As shown, various devices such as a PBX, a host CPU, and a FAX are connected to the DCB-24 in a corporate headquarters. The DCB-24 multiplexes up to 24 DS0 voice and data channels in a single T1 line which is connected to the public network.  Users who have a need to drop off or insert individual voice or data channels at locations along the T1 transmission path can choose the DDI-24 or they may use non-intelligent DCB-24 channel cards with the intelligent Route-24® Drop and Insert LIU. Like the DCB-24, this system also provides an economical way to access a T1 network. It is an ideal alternative for users who require this application and need only a few channels. In the example below, a company with offices in three major cities can drop or insert data while the rest of the T1 signal continues on to its final destination. Here, data is sent from New York to Los Angeles with some of it dropped off in Chicago. In the same manner, the voice and data sent from New York to Los Angeles are routed through Chicago, where data can be inserted into any unused channels.

The tables shown indicate the various types of voice and data channel units available for the DCB-24 and the DDI-24.  Any of these voice or data channel units may also be used in the Route-24 network access multiplexer. 

Both the DCB-24 and the DDI-24 can easily be configured via hardware switches on the common equipment and the individual voice and data channel cards. The common equipment includes the Line Interface Unit (LIU), an optional Channel Service Unit (CSU), a power supply/ringing generator and the power supply unit DC-to-DC converter. The DCB-24 uses a non-intelligent LIU to connect a wide variety of voice and data channel units to the T1 services offered by carriers. You can configure the LIU by selecting options via DIP switches on the card. For example, you can select the frame format (D4 or ESF), line coding (AMI or B8ZS) and amount of transmit equalization (from 0 to 655 feet).  The transmit clock synchronization source can be switch selected to any of four sources including the internal master clock, looped timing, an external DDS composite clock, or external 8 kHz clock. In addition, a trunk processing switch setting allows you to choose whether to send normal or idle code during a carrier group  alarm.

The common equipment and channel units in both the DCB-24 and the DDI-24 include front panel switches, LEDs and test jacks for easy diagnostics and maintenance. The front panel switches on the LIU include an audible office alarm cutoff switch and a switch for channel unit testing with a quiet code or 1 kHz tone. The front panel LEDs can indicate conditions such as a DS1 signal loss, frame failure, remote alarm, trunk processing and alarm cutoff.  You can also perform tests on the voice and data channel cards via bantam jacks on the front panel. For example, a user can set up loopbacks or request a tone to perform tests on voice frequency line characteristics end-to-end. On data channel cards, manual remote loopbacks can be set up at the far end, or local loopbacks can be set up at the near end. Data cards also recognize DDS codes to test for Bit Error Rates.
